The Cocos Island Lagoon swim is held in November and a small group of Somerset Seahorses have booked and/or shown interest in hot-footing it up to Cocos Islands for the 8km swim. To date, Murray and Sue Corp, Liz O’Neill and her husband, Julie O’Loughlin, Yvette Ballard and Ellen Clair have all booked flights and accommodation.
The swim can be swum as a solo, duo or team. The entry forms should be available from June or July and we will have more information then. It appears to be well organised by the people who run it, and support craft etc. are provided by the locals. People who have done the swim in the past say it is quite laid back and really great fun and most enjoyable. Applications for the swim open on 1 August 2013.
As accommodation is limited on the island it is a good idea to get in early if you are thinking of giving this a go. There are only 2 or 3 flights per week to Cocos Island via Christmas Island. Yvette, Ellen and Julie are staying a few days on Christmas Island on the way home and with a few more people, will be able to book a boat and go snorkelling. Airfares are around $1000 per person return, with accommodation costing from $100 to $200 per night twin share, depending on degree of luxury required.
Ellen and Julie are trying to get a team organised so if you are interested please contact Julie on This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
