MASTERS SWIMMING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 2011
The 36th Masters Swimming National Championships were held in Perth from Wednesday 27th April to Sunday 1st May 2011 and attended by 84 clubs from all over Australia. The Championship was won by Claremont Masters with 1,813 points, with second place to Blacktown City (NSW) with 1,495 points and third to Powerpoints MSC (Victoria) with 1,461 points.
Somerset fielded a small but lively team: Trish Deaker, Jeannie Johnson, Julie O’Loughlin, Manfred Kraut and Helen Urquhart who between them completed 29 swims. They were rewarded for their efforts with a very creditable 33rd overall, with 151 points.
7 medals were won for Somerset: Jeannie Johnson won silver for 50 Free and 200 free, and Manfred Kraut won silver for 400 IM. Jeannie also won bronze for 100 Back and 50 Back, and Manfred won bronze for 200 Back and 200 IM. Congratulations.
Somerset was also well served by a bunch of intrepid volunteers who kept the officials in line in their room, time kept, and generally flew the Somerset flag.
