Club Days

Sunday

9:00am - 10:30am (Summer: October - March)

9:30am - 11:00am (Winter: April - September)

Sundays are the day when the Morning and Evening crews get together to swim. There is a program of events for Sundays which is published quarterly on the club website.

To get a better idea of what happens on Sunday Club Days read this recent report on Sunday Swimming.

Races:

Basically the Sunday program is a set of races but they are more accurately termed ‘Time Trials’. This is where you get the opportunity to test the improvement in your swimming. Can you swim faster than before? Can you swim further than before? Can you swim strokes that you couldn’t swim before?

Some people get nervous because they are swimming in a ‘race’ - but basically you are only swimming against yourself. The heats are arranged in order of ability so you should be swimming with others who are of similar ability to yourself. Your times are recorded so that next time you can gauge whether you have improved.

This is also the opportunity to practice swimming under race conditions and to learn race procedures before you go to a carnival.

Club competitions/trophies:

To encourage members to come along to the club days and to add a bit of interest there are several trophies which are presented at the end of the year. Points for these competitions are awarded for participation and improvement.

Barry Johnson Memorial Trophy: This trophy is presented to the top male swimmer of the year. Points are awarded for participation at club and interclub swim meets.

Janice Twartz Memorial Trophy: This trophy is presented to the top female swimmer of the year. Points are awarded for participation at club and interclub swim meets.

Colts versus Fillies Relays: The Battle of the Sexes! This is the most serious competition of the year. One Sunday each month a handicapped relay is held between the men and the women of the club. Points are awarded each month to the winners (and the team who swims closest to their nominated time gets a chocolate bar each). At the end of the year there is a trophy awarded to the team with the most points.

Fun Relays: There is only chocolate at stake here! Mixed teams. Handicapped. First team over the line gets the chocolates!

Morning tea:

Sunday morning is always concluded with morning tea. Members are asked to
